Osborne Chapter 10 focused on making templates in Dreamweaver including snippets, library items and repeating regions within your template. Although there are some templates already set in the Dreamweaver program, you have the option to create your own. We did say in class yesterday, though, that if you create a template, something is always going to go wrong. :(
For my client site, I would like to carry the same header and footer throughout the site, so making these reusable items will definitely help me as I move forward in creating the site.
Snippets allow you to copy-paste code from a common library to anywhere you would like them to go just by dragging and dropping the code. Snippets are most useful on items that will never change, like the name or logo.
Library items allow you to save any common element and manage it from a master copy in your site folder. When you place the library item into a page, it remains attached to the master copy, making any changes you do to the master copy automatically transfer to the other instances attached to it.
Templates are most useful when you want to carry the same look to all of the pages. As I said before, I would like to keep the header and footer as well as other regions of the site the same, just changing the content, so maybe templates would be better to use??
