For today we read the first tow lessons in "Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Digital Classroom." They covered the basics of the Dreamweaver interface, how to make a new site, how to make a new page, how to place images and text, and how to set page attributes.
My initial reaction to what we've gone through so far is a hope that it gets more complex in the future. While it seems to be a simple way of creating a webpage, I see why we started with hand-coding. Having a basis in some of the terminology and techniques will help us navigate the menu options within Dreamweaver, as they aren't nearly accessible to those without web experience as they seem to claim. I do appreciate the simplicity by which it works. Drag and drop, pull to resize, etc. What worries me is that I feel like I'm lacking control over when I hand-write the code. If I wrote the code myself, I should be a bit more familiar with it, and thus should be able to do my own troubleshooting much faster. Perhaps (read: I hope) I will be proven wrong. I can also see the value in working with highly complex sites with massive networks of pages and intricate coding, but even given "only a month" to work on it, I still feel like I could generate five pages that do what I want more efficiently by hand-coding.
