This series of readings was all about CSS. I used a bit of
CSS in my hand coded website so some of it was review for me. CSS is what
styles HTML and it has been built to work with HTML. I like to think of it that html makes the room and CSS designs is.
So CSS effects how things look; the fonts, the colors, how things are arranged,
etc. CSS works in style sheets, or can be put directly into the HTML coding.
Dreamweaver uses CSS to style their websites. It both writes the CSS for you
and you yourself can go in and put in your own CSS by hand.
I’m glad to be learning about CSS because from what I can
see of HTML 5 they have made huge changes to how HTML can style a website. In
fact it seems like they are making an argument that HTML should not be styling
a website at all. While I don’t necessarily argee with this argument they are
trying to make – in making a room you start to style it in some way and I think
they are fooling yourselves if you think you can make the two separate (I also
have a feeling that in some way they are arguing what is more important, but I
haven’t looked at this enough to fully understand that part). However, my main
point of this is that I think CSS is extremely important and I want to be just
as competent with it as I am becoming with HTML.
