Floating Columns and Tables

The first section of the reading went into how to use the float and clear properties to create a column layout on a webpage. This was actually really helpful, since I've been trying to figure out what float does for a while now, and have been struggling to use it effectively. I really enjoy how column layouts look, and I was hoping to use columns in my client page, so lesson 6 will come in handy for that.

Lesson 7 made me realize that I've been guilty of using tables for a bit more than organizing tabular data. I've definitely noticed that tables aren't ideal for layouts, and it's very clear that CSS takes the cake in that arena. Nonetheless, tables are an awesome element and can really add a sense of order to information and are really just a great way to visually break up and add organization to a page that is info-heavy. Not to mention that you can do quite a bit of formatting and styling to tables in Dreamweaver, which is great.

In other news, I found this fun (if outdated) comic about using CSS over tables. It's a bit behind the times, but I still got a kick out it!
