Okay, so here's a new game we can play together. Someone posts a website and we all get to comment (and earn points for those comments) as to if the design is a fitting response or it isn't.
here is my first challenge:

rhetorically fitting or other?
Defend your position!
Okay so I think this website is rhetorically fitting in some respects, but not in others. They obviously want to give you this outdoorsy, cabin getaway feel because judging by the pictures that's the experience they're selling. The brown color scheme and woodgrain background all continue that message; and the scrapbook-picture borders definitely give the vibe of a memorable, fun vacation.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what's really throwing me off is the choices of grey. There's like a dirtied cement texture on the navigation and logo that just doesn't quite add up to me when contrasted with the rest of the message. Also, when you hover on the navigation it drops down mid-gray rounded edges menus...that look really modern. REALLY modern actually; to the point of being out-of-place (they could have been styled more to match!). Last, I would say that while I understand the theory of their headers as being like scrapbook tags, I think they could have chosen something that was a bit more along their theme. There are so many different styles they could have gone with to convey the tag theme, but the one they chose has swirls and seems almost elegant or formal. That point in particular is really minor, but it's a bit off-putting if you think about it for a while.
So overall I think the website accomplished sending their message in a meaningful way, but there were some minor decisions that were made in the process that could really have been refined a bit to make their design completely immersive.
