Now that we all have the history and foundational characteristics and aspects of the world wide web, the internet and coding and html and...- well, I could go on and on, but overall, we have the general understanding of the web part of web design down--and now it's time to take it all another small step further into web design..and delve into the design aspect of web design.
These two articles covered 3 very important aspects to web design, interface design, navigation design and architecture. All three are all very intertwined and work together to create a usable, clean and visually pleasing website. One of the main steps to designing is planning, whether it's for interface, navigation or architecture design you always want to start off with what Williams calls a simple plan. Yes, keep. it. simple. I learned that lesson the hard way last year, and am definitely approaching this a lot slower and simpler. The Williams article goes on to describe more details as to how to keep things simple and clean with your interface and navigation design.
When it comes to the architecture you start off with a top level and as obvious or unobvious as it may seem, you work your way down. You also want to work on balancing out the different levels. When I think of architecture I need to remember that this is not only the structure..but also how the site is formatted (not completely, because I know there can be a lot done in CSS)
