So these pieces introduce how to create a web page in the most basic sense. To the best I can understand, designing a webpage can be compared to designing a poster (which is actually pretty similar when you think about it). You have two major things to consider, the content and the design. If you were making a poster to share text information, you might use a word processor to create the text information, but not to actually design the poster.
When creating a webpage, you would use HTML to write out the content and create the basic framework for the page, and then CSS to worry about the specific designs within the piece such as font and color.
The lessons by HTML.net were useful, however the piece by Dave Raggett seemed to be lacking specific examples without inserting his example codes into a page. My favorite example was the "emphasis" which doesn't explain how the word is emphasized. The example codes were useful to see how HTML is laid out, but having examples of how it would appear on page would have helped make it more useful.
