When I say attack of the code, I literally mean attack of the code. It actually attacked....my schedule.
I'm going to be completely honest here, I'm writing this blog entry so late at night because I just shut myself away for the past....eight hours? Coding up my domain that's been sitting unused for a year or two. The readings for today inspired me to not just re-read through all the HTML tags again, but to refresh myself in a hands on way.
I looked at the tags and code today from the scalability standpoint as much as I possibly could. In the past I restricted myself to making sure things looked good in my resolution, on my end. As the Grok reading mentioned though, I have to start thinking like the engineer. While the structure might be stable and rigid because it's pixel defined, that doesn't necessarily make an easy to navigate structure, especially when resolution dwindles or extremely increases. Using tags that would allow for scalability and a strong structure became my emphasis, and tossing myself back into the fray after freshening up on tag meanings and usage really brought it all back to me, but with fresh insight from my new point of view.
I know I still have a lot to learn, and I know I need to continue to think outside the box I've become so comfortable with. The readings were a great resource to put my foot back on the basics and start trying to view web design anew; and I definitely feel that I've gotten somewhere today in my own personal progress as a web designer. I hope by continuing to review the code and work in class on my projects that I can continue to be shaped into an even better designer than I was the day before.
