I really liked this week's readings - mostly because I'm experienced with HTML coding and we're really starting to get into the bare bones of the world wide web. The Grok Web Standards reading absolutely nailed it when Cook said that writing HTML code is like being a writer. This is actually a lot of the reason that I like it (as opposed to object-oriented programming languages). A heading in HTML is the same that a heading is in a book - it introduces a section of content.
Also, Cook mentioned that you need to think like both an artist and an engineer. Programming in HTML requires knowing the mechanics of a webpage, while CSS allows you to use your creative side (keeping in mind usability). Why use HTML? According to HTML.net, there really is no way around it. If you want to make a webpage, there will have to be some HTML coding included.
For the most part (and this may just be personal opinion) HTML and CSS are very easy to program in. The commands that you use in them are the same as they are in the English dictionary. A "body" actually is the body of the code. The only thing that is really different is the color codes, but I have never met anyone who memorizes any color codes other than black or white. They make nifty little charts for that!
