Kazmierski

After reading this piece by Kazmierski, I believe my knowledge of the internet has doubled.  I was not aware of just how many different forms there were before we reached what we have today.  In digital media we read this piece by Bush which goes into more detail about his Memex, however I had never thought about what happened between there and today.

It is interesting to follow how the idea of this connection between everyone and everything continued to slowly grow from one developer to the next.  From Bush's Memex to Nelson's Xanadu, and then the United States governments ARPAnet and then Tim Berners-Lee.  Today we take Hypertext for granted.  Most of the people who use the internet probably don't know what hypertext is other than that it allows them to use the internet.

One final thought, is just how big and complicated the world wide web is.  This is an interesting image I found awhile back,  This group attempted to map out all the connections in the web on a 3-D graph.

If I read it correctly, this is only about 30% of the internet in 2005.

  1. How does this historical understanding of the Internet/www influence how you understand the purpose or construction of webpages?
