Audience is very important. Without an audience what is the
purpose of anything, really? When we create things, most often, we are creating
them to be seen. So, it makes sense that studying your audience would be a very
important and useful tool when creating a web page.
First off, you need to identify who your target audience
actually is. You will get others outside of your target who will view your
website, but the idea is attracting an audience that will want to return. You
also need to know what your audience is working with, if they can’t access your
webpage they will just find another that will fit their needs. So a designer
must understand the “requirements and environments” (philosophe) of their
audience.
It also helps to put the most important information where
the audience/user will most likely look first, and with eye-tracking technology
that has become much easier. We now know what types of eye patterns users make
to find information on a website whether they are looking through text or
images. The designer has to find the balance.
